Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer lets you play a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop striving to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Across numerous stages, encounter tough enemies and visit a store to acquire skins for your dung hero.
Time your actions precisely, since one mistake means starting over. Jump using floating orbs to launch yourself higher, navigate crumbling ledges, and touch buttons to open hidden paths. Gather coins and use them on tougher game content as the action intensifies.
Visually, the demo features neon environments and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics with morphing basic polygons evokes memories of gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although tough to name other games where you play as a piece of feces, video games frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, including taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on computers this November.
